Sensitive skin and broken sleep? We have been through both. Start with the fabric that touches their skin 24/7.
24/7 daily, the fabric is the thing touching them.
Why We Started With Sleep
“I remember sitting on the floor next to Elly's cot at 2am, on the third night of trying different sleeping bags. Nothing felt right against her skin.”
– Shennon, Founder of Elly Milley
What is Signature Air Bamboo™?
Signature Air Bamboo™ is Elly Milley's own fabric: a 95% bamboo lyocell and 5% spandex blend developed over close to a year for sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Bamboo lyocell is made through a gentler processing method than ordinary bamboo viscose, which lets it stay smooth against reactive skin. It is hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, it thermoregulates rather than trapping heat, and it wicks moisture roughly four times faster than cotton — what matters most in Singapore's humidity. Every piece is test-worn by our founder's own children before it is sold.
Swaddle, sleeping bag or sleep sack?
A swaddle wraps a newborn's arms in, which settles the startle reflex through the first weeks. A sleeping bag leaves the arms free and covers the body, so there is no loose blanket to kick off. Sleeping bag, sleep sack and wearable blanket all mean the same thing. We make both: an arms-up zip swaddle for newborns, and an arms-out sleeping bag from around six months, cut wide through the legs so their hips can sit in the natural frog-leg position.
When should I stop swaddling?
At the first sign of rolling, usually between two and four months. Once a baby can roll with their arms wrapped, swaddling is no longer safe, and that is the moment to move to an arms-out sleeping bag rather than a loose blanket. The torso stays snug so it still feels like being held, while their arms are free to move.
Which sleepwear should I choose for my child's age?
Go by the stage they are at rather than the number on the label. A swaddle for the newborn weeks, while the startle reflex still wakes them. An arms-out sleeping bag from the moment they show any sign of rolling, usually two to four months. A Sleep Suit through babyhood and early toddlerhood, with fold-over cuffs and a two-way zip for night changes. A two-piece pyjama set from around three, when they want to dress themselves. All four are made in the same Signature Air Bamboo™, so the fabric against their skin never changes as they grow out of one and into the next.
What should my baby wear in an air-conditioned room?
One breathable layer against the skin, plus a light cover you can remove without waking them. In a room around 24°C, a long-sleeved Sleep Suit with a light blanket or sleeping bag over it is usually enough. The layer that touches them matters more than the number of layers. To check, feel the back of their neck rather than their hands and feet, which run cool on almost every baby.
Why does my baby sweat with the aircon on?
Usually because the fabric is holding the moisture, rather than the room being too warm. Cotton absorbs sweat and keeps it against the skin, so a baby can feel damp at 24°C — one of the most common reasons babies stir at 3am, and what aggravates eczema-prone skin overnight. Signature Air Bamboo™ wicks around four times faster than cotton.
What room temperature should my baby sleep in?
Anywhere from about 20°C to 26°C works, and the room does not have to be air-conditioned for them to sleep well. What matters more is the layer against their skin, because in our humidity a fabric that holds damp will wake them at either end of that range. In an air-conditioned room we would reach for a long-sleeved Sleep Suit; on a fan-only night, a short-sleeved romper in the same fabric does the same job with less on them. Signature Air Bamboo™ thermoregulates, so one fabric covers both.
Is bamboo sleepwear good for eczema-prone skin?+
It can be, but only when the bamboo is processed and blended correctly. Signature Air Bamboo™ is a 95% bamboo lyocell and 5% spandex blend that took close to a year to develop, because our founder’s own daughter was born with eczema-prone skin and nothing on the market worked. The lyocell form is hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, it thermoregulates rather than trapping heat, and it wicks moisture away so damp fabric doesn’t sit against a flare. What is gentle enough for reactive skin is the standard we hold every piece to, so this is not a separate sensitive-skin line within the range.
How do I choose the right size?
Order by height rather than age, and take the larger size if you are between two. Sleep Suits run 0–3M to 12–18M, the arms-out sleeping bag comes in Large at 74 x 26cm for six months and up, and pyjama sets run 3T to 7T for ages three to eight. Every product page carries a size guide in centimetres, and sleepwear can be exchanged within 30 days, unworn with tags on.
Will bamboo sleepwear pill or lose its shape after washing?
Some bamboo does, and that comes down to the blend. Bamboo viscose processed cheaply goes bobbly at the seams within weeks. Ours is a 95% bamboo lyocell and 5% spandex blend we spent close to a year settling on, and lyocell holds its structure through repeated washing rather than breaking down. Machine wash cold below 30°C, inside out, with a mild detergent and no fabric softener, then air dry in the shade. No dryer and no bleach. Cared for that way, pieces routinely go from a first child to a second.
Why does bamboo sleepwear cost more than cotton?
The cost starts with the fabric. Bamboo lyocell is more expensive to produce than cotton, and close to a year went into settling on the exact 95% and 5% ratio rather than taking a cheaper blend off the shelf. Every piece is then test-worn by our founder’s own children, sometimes for months, before it is sold to anyone else. It is also made to outlast one child — plenty of parents tell us they keep the pieces rather than pass them on.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery is $5 and takes 3 to 5 working days, free on orders over $80. Express is $10 and arrives in 1 to 2 working days. Orders are processed within 24 hours. Same-day by Grab Express or Lalamove at cost — leave a note in your order remarks.
Can I buy the sleep kit as a gift?
Yes, and a good number of these go out as gifts. Choose the three prints, add a gift box at checkout and write your message, and it arrives ready to hand over. The swaddle and the Sleep Suit both start at newborn, so a kit can be given before the baby arrives.
Give them the night you'd want for your own.
The same fabric from the first swaddle to the pyjamas they pick out themselves.
